 How did royal brides and a brides from more modest means accomplish their sartorial wedding goals through a simple color choice? Brides from more humble origins had to select gowns which were practical yet beautiful. Since white was an impractical color and a pain to keep clean, many brides wore grey, blue, pink and (sometimes) green and enhanced their wedding cakes gallery with various accessories.
For noble or royal brides, wedding gowns were meant to exhibit their family or their country’s wealth. Many times these brides were marrying not only for themselves but for a dynasty, and they had to dress to impress their guests and subjects. These women often wore wholesale dresses to signify their social status, because the dyes used for these colors were expensive and rare. A jewel-toned wedding gown demonstrated that she brought lands, titles, money, a country (or all of the above) to the marriage.
 Today’s brides are only limited by their imagination, therefore the sky’s the limit when choosing their wedding dress. You don’t have to commit to head to toe color, but you can opt for a dress which uses an accent color or wear a dress with a very light wash of color.
